FAQ

Frequently asked questions about PFinTrack

Privacy & Data

Where is my data stored?
All your financial data (wallets, transactions, loans) lives on your device, inside your browser's local storage. PFinTrack has no server and never sends your data anywhere. It's yours, on your device.
What happens if I switch phones or lose my device?
Since your data lives on your device, switching phones without a backup means losing it. Before you switch: open Settings, then Backup, then connect Google Drive. On your new device, open Settings, then Backup, connect the same Google Drive, then restore from Backup History.
Can PFinTrack see my financial data?
No. PFinTrack has no accounts, no login, and no server. Your data is 100% on your device. Nobody can access it, including the PFinTrack team. We don't even know you exist.
How do I back up and restore my data?
The safest way: open Settings, then Backup, then connect Google Drive and set your passphrase. After that, auto-backup runs on its own each time you open the app (at most once per 24 hours). Want to back up right now? Tap Backup Now. To restore: open Settings, then Backup, pick a file from Backup History, enter the same passphrase, then confirm. Backup and restore work only through Google Drive. Backup files can't be downloaded or opened outside the app, which keeps your data safe. See the 'Backup & Security' category in this FAQ for more details on passphrases, how many backups are kept, and what happens if you forget the passphrase.
How do I delete all my data?
Settings → Data & Storage → delete all data. This permanently removes all wallets, transactions, and loan records. Back up to Google Drive first if you might need the data later.
What can cause PFinTrack data loss?
Most causes are preventable. PFinTrack keeps your records directly on the phone or laptop you're using. The data lives on that device only, and it isn't stored anywhere else. Things that can wipe your data: • Clearing history and site data in your browser. If you pick "clear cookies and site data" in browser settings, PFinTrack's records get cleared too. This is the most common cause. • Removing PFinTrack from your phone's home screen (Android). If you previously added PFinTrack to your home screen and later uninstall it, the data usually goes with it. • Using incognito or private mode. Everything disappears the moment you close the tab or window. Don't use private mode for actual finance tracking. • Opening on a different phone, laptop, or browser. Your data doesn't follow you. Each device (and even each browser on the same device) holds its own records. Opening on a friend's phone means an empty start. • Using Safari on iPhone or Mac without adding it to your home screen. If you don't open PFinTrack for 7 days straight, Safari auto-clears its data to save space. Fix: add PFinTrack to your home screen. • Phone or laptop storage filling up. When space runs low, browsers may quietly delete site data they consider unimportant. Rare, but possible. • The "Reset Data" button in Settings. You triggered it yourself. Permanent. • Browser crashing while saving. Very rare, usually only if the browser suddenly closes mid-save. • Forgetting your backup passphrase. If you forget the passphrase, existing backups in Google Drive can't be restored. The passphrase only lives on your device, we don't have a copy. How to stay safe: • Back up regularly. Open Settings, then Backup, then connect Google Drive. Once connected, backups run automatically. If your device breaks or gets lost, connect the same Google Drive on a new device and Restore. • Add PFinTrack to your home screen. Open Settings, then Install App. It's faster to open and safer from Safari's auto-cleanup. • Avoid private or incognito mode for everyday use. • Be careful when cleaning your browser. When clearing history, don't tick the "site data" option, or exclude PFinTrack from the list. Bottom line: regular backups equal safety. It's the only way to keep your data when you switch phones, switch browsers, or run into the unexpected.
Do I need to create an account or log in?
No. PFinTrack has no account system, so you don't need to sign up, log in, or enter an email or phone number. Open it in your browser and start using it. Your data stays on this device, not in any account.
Is my financial data sent to a server?
No. All your records are stored directly on this device, in your browser's storage, not on our servers. We never see, collect, or store your financial data. The only data that ever leaves your device is if you choose to back up to Google Drive, and even then the backup file is encrypted with your passphrase before it is uploaded.
Does PFinTrack sell my data or show ads?
No. PFinTrack does not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone, and it shows no ads. There are no third-party ad trackers either. Since your data never reaches us in the first place, there is nothing for us to sell.

Backup & Security

Is it safe to back up to Google Drive?
Yes. Backups are stored in an app-only folder that only PFinTrack can access. Before each upload, the backup file is locked on your device using a passphrase only you know. Even if your Google account is compromised, the backup files can't be opened without that passphrase.
What is the backup passphrase and why is it required?
The passphrase is a secret password (minimum 12 characters) used to lock your backup before it's uploaded to Drive. It's never sent to any server, it lives only on your device. It's required because it's the only way to guarantee your financial data stays private, even from us or Google. You set the passphrase the first time you connect Google Drive.
What if I forget my passphrase?
Unfortunately, if you forget the passphrase, your existing backups can't be restored. There's no 'forgot passphrase' button that emails a reset, because we don't have your passphrase either. What you can do: open Settings, then Backup, then 'Forgot Passphrase' to reset, then set up a new passphrase. After the reset, you start fresh, and new backups will use the new passphrase. Tip: store your passphrase in a trusted password manager.
What's the difference between 'Change Passphrase' and 'Forgot Passphrase'?
'Change Passphrase' is for when you still remember the old passphrase and want to switch to a new one. Existing backups stay encrypted with the old passphrase, only new backups use the new one. 'Forgot Passphrase' is for when you truly forgot it. All old backups become unreadable, and you start over with a new passphrase.
How many backups are kept?
The most recent 10 backups per device. Each time auto-backup runs (once per 24 hours when you open the app), older backups beyond the 10-file limit get cleaned up automatically. You can also delete them manually using the trash icon in Backup History.
When does auto-backup run?
Auto-backup runs when you open the app and at least 24 hours have passed since the last backup. PFinTrack can't back up in the background unless the app is open, because it's a web app. Tip: open the app at least once a week so your data stays protected.
Can I restore my Drive backup on another device?
Yes, as long as you sign in with the same Google account and remember the backup passphrase. On the new device, connect Google Drive, enter the same passphrase you used when backing up, then pick a file from Backup History to restore. If the passphrase doesn't match, the backup won't open.
Can I download the backup file and store it elsewhere?
Backup files sit in a hidden folder on Google Drive that only PFinTrack can access. There's no way to manually download them from the regular Google Drive view. It's still safe either way because the files are locked, even if you sent one to someone else, they couldn't read it without your passphrase.
What is App Lock and how do I turn it on?
App Lock secures the app with a 6-digit PIN, and optionally fingerprint or Face ID, so others can't immediately see your data when your phone is borrowed. Turn it on via Settings, then Security, then App Lock, then create a PIN. Once active, the app asks for your PIN every time it opens or reloads. App Lock is per-device and is not included in backups, so when you restore data on a new phone you set it up again there.
Does App Lock encrypt my data?
App Lock is a screen lock that keeps others from immediately seeing your data when your phone changes hands, not data encryption. For extra confidentiality, also rely on your device's built-in screen lock and the passphrase on your Google Drive backups.
What if I forget my App Lock PIN?
Your data will not be deleted. Because creating a PIN required connecting a Google account, recovery now goes through that account. On the lock screen tap 'Forgot PIN?', confirm, then sign in to Google with the same account you used when creating the PIN. If it matches, you'll be asked to set a new PIN and the app opens right away with all your data intact. If you sign in with a different Google account, recovery is rejected. Important: App Lock will never delete your data. If you forget your PIN and also lose access to that Google account, your data stays safe but locked.
Why can't I turn on passkey?
Passkey can only be enabled after you've created a PIN, and it only appears on devices that support fingerprint or Face ID. Passkey is an extra layer on top of the PIN, so the PIN is always available as a fallback. If you turn off App Lock, passkey is automatically disabled too.

Features & How It Works

What's the difference between Give and Receive in the Loan module?
Give means you lent money to someone, so they owe you. Receive means you got money from them, either they're paying you back, or you're paying off a debt. Everything is grouped by person so you can track it all in one view.
Why doesn't a Transfer count as an expense?
A transfer just moves money between your own wallets. Your net worth stays the same. It's different from an expense, where money actually leaves. Counting it as an expense would make your reports look worse than reality.
What is "Balance Correction" in my transaction list?
It's an automatic entry created when you manually edit a wallet's balance. For example, if you change your BCA balance from 500,000 to 750,000, PFinTrack records the 250,000 difference as a Balance Correction so the change is always traceable.
What is Saving Rate and how is it calculated?
Saving Rate shows what percentage of your income you actually kept. The formula: (Income − Expenses) ÷ Income × 100%. If income is 10 million and expenses 7 million, your Saving Rate is 30%. Higher is better.
Why can my wallet balance go negative?
It happens when you record an expense or loan that exceeds a wallet's balance. PFinTrack doesn't block it because that's real life. Credit cards and overdraft accounts can genuinely go negative. A negative balance isn't an error, it's valid data.
What is the yearly and monthly Recap?
Recap is an interactive story summary of your finances, similar to Spotify Wrapped. Two versions are available: yearly Recap (at year-end) and monthly Recap (at month-end). Each story highlights total income, expenses, the day you spent the most, your favorite category, and your financial archetype. To open it: go to the Report tab and look for the Recap card at the top. You can also share the story with friends using the Share button.
Can I share a report without revealing actual amounts?
Yes. On the Report calendar view, there's a Hide Amounts toggle before you share the image. When active, all numbers on the report card are replaced with bullets (••••), but spending patterns and categories are still visible. Great for showing off streaks or consistency without disclosing the exact figures.
How do I hide or show certain sections in the report?
Open Settings, then under the Display group tap Report. There's a switch for each report section: Saving Rate card, active loans, insight card, category chart, title chart, daily summary, loan row, balance correction row, monthly overview chart, net worth chart, and transaction list. Turn off what you don't want to see and the report updates instantly. The Daily summary has 3 separate switches for its views (list, calendar, chart), so you can keep only the views you actually use. There's also a Show all and Hide all button to set them at once. If you're unsure what a section is, tap the "i" icon next to it to see a preview of how it looks. These settings only change the display, they never delete any data.
How do I hide my total balance?
Just tap the Total Balance amount on the Wallet page to hide it. Numbers turn into bullets (••••) so the app stays safe in public places or when you screenshot, and the amounts on each wallet card are hidden too. The hidden or visible state is remembered, so you don't have to set it every time you open the app. In Portfolio IDX, just tap any amount on the summary card to hide or show it, and the state is shared with Wallet.
What's the Balance Target for a wallet?
Balance Target is a savings goal you set per wallet, for example saving 10,000,000 for an emergency fund. You can also add a deadline date. PFinTrack shows progress (remaining amount and days left) on the wallet card, plus a status of Achieved, On Track, or Overdue. Set the target via the Add or Edit Wallet form, in the Balance Target section.
What are wallet categories (Spending, Savings, Investment)?
Every wallet gets one category so its purpose is easy to tell apart. Spending is for money you actually use day to day, Savings is for money you set aside, and Investment is for funds you grow over time. You pick the category when you Add or Edit a Wallet, separate from the wallet type (Cash, Bank, Digital Bank, E-Wallet, Digital Asset, and others). That way you instantly know how much money is free to spend versus money best left untouched.
How do I see my balance broken down by category?
On the Wallet tab, tap the arrow next to Total Balance. The breakdown opens and shows the total balance for each category: Spending, Savings, and Investment. Tap the arrow again to close it. Whether it is open or closed is saved, so it stays the same the next time you open the app.
How do I filter wallets by category?
After opening the balance breakdown, tap one of the category rows (for example Savings) to filter the wallet list down to just that category. The active row is marked with a different text color so it is easy to spot. Tap the same row again to clear the filter, or close the breakdown, which also clears the filter automatically.
What is a Custom Report and how is it different from the regular report?
A Custom Report is a periodic report you build yourself. For example, you want to track total Food expenses from the 1st to the 15th each month, or total freelance income in a specific quarter. Create one from the Report tab, then Custom tab, then tap +. Pick a date range, transaction type, categories, and wallets you want included. The result is saved and editable anytime.
What happens when I edit or delete a transaction?
Wallet balances are adjusted automatically. If you delete a 50,000 expense, that wallet's balance goes back up by 50,000. Editing the amount works the same way, the difference is recalculated. For Transfers, both wallets (source and destination) get adjusted. The transaction record isn't actually removed from storage, it's just hidden, so other data stays consistent.
How do I delete a wallet, loan, or holding?
Press and hold the item to delete it. Long-press a transaction, wallet, person, loan entry, budget, or stock/lot/broker card to bring up a delete confirmation; after you confirm, a short 'Undo' notification lets you reverse it. A wallet can't be deleted while it's still used by transactions, loans, or your portfolio, and a broker can't be deleted while it still has active holdings.
How does Transfer between wallets work?
Transfer moves balance from one of your wallets to another. For example, moving 500,000 from Cash to BCA, the Cash balance drops and the BCA balance rises by the same amount. Your total net worth doesn't change, which is why Transfer doesn't show as income or expense in reports. Add one via the + button on the Transactions tab, then pick Transfer.
Why is there a "Settled" (Lunas) label in the loan list?
The Settled label shows up when the total you gave (Give) and the total you received back (Receive) for the same person are equal, so there's no outstanding debt. The full history is still kept for audit. If a new transaction with that person happens later, the status updates automatically.
What is the title chart in reports and how do I use it?
In the report, once you pick a category in the category chart, a second chart appears that breaks that category down by transaction title. So inside the Food category, for example, you can see what ate up the most. Tap one title to filter its transaction list, and entries with no title are grouped as Untitled. You can turn this chart off from Settings, Report if you do not need it.
How do I use the calculator in the amount field?
Every amount field, whether in income, expense, transfer, loan, or wallet, has a calculator you can open. You can add, subtract, multiply, divide, or use percent right there without leaving the app. The math is read left to right in order, then tap apply to drop the result into the field. Any value already in the field is carried over when the calculator opens.
What is the Portfolio IDX feature?
Portfolio IDX helps you track your IDX stock holdings, split per broker account. Each stock has its own cost basis, average price, market value, and floating profit or loss. It is handy if you invest in stocks and want to keep an eye on them alongside the rest of your finances.
How do I show the Portfolio IDX card?
Portfolio IDX is hidden by default. Open Settings, then Appearance, then Wallet, and turn on Show Portfolio IDX. Once enabled, the Portfolio IDX card appears on the Wallet page and its cost basis is included in your total balance under the Investment category.
Are stock prices updated automatically?
Yes. On the Update Prices page there is a Get Latest Prices button that fetches every ticker at once from the server, and on the Stock Detail page there is a fetch icon inside the price field for a single ticker. This needs you to sign in with Google and the service to be active. You can still type prices manually anytime without signing in. Once prices are updated, market value and floating profit or loss are recalculated automatically.
How is stock profit or loss calculated?
PFinTrack uses the average cost method. Cost basis is built from your total purchases, and transaction fees can be included or ignored based on each broker's setting. Floating profit or loss is the difference between current market value and cost basis. When you sell part of a position, part of the cost basis is released and the difference becomes realized profit or loss.
How do I buy a stock I don't own yet?
Tap Buy in Portfolio IDX, then pick New stock. Fill in the broker, ticker, number of lots, price, and source wallet, then save. The new stock is created and the purchase is recorded as a real transaction that deducts your wallet balance plus fees. This differs from Add Stock, which only records an opening position (shares you already owned before you started tracking) without deducting your wallet balance. Selling is still only possible for stocks you already own.
Do stock transactions affect my wallet balance?
Yes. When you record a buy, the source wallet balance drops by the purchase value plus fees. When you sell, the balance rises by the sale proceeds minus fees. The exception is an opening position, meaning shares you already owned before you started tracking, which does not deduct from your wallet balance.
What is an RDN wallet and the broker's default RDN wallet?
RDN (Rekening Dana Nasabah) is a dedicated wallet type for funds held at a stock broker. In the broker details you can pick a default RDN wallet. When you record a stock transaction for that broker, the RDN wallet is auto-selected as the source or destination of funds, so you don't have to pick it every time. Create the wallet with the RDN type in the Wallet module first.
How do I correct a stock's lot count and average price?
Open the stock detail, then tap Correct Lots & Average. Enter the correct lot count and average price. It works just like wallet balance correction: the position is set directly to the target values without changing any wallet balance, and it is recorded as a Correction entry in the history. Handy for tidying up a position that drifted due to corporate actions or imperfect bookkeeping.
How do I see all of my stock transactions?
Open Portfolio IDX, tap the three-dot menu at the top right, then pick Transaction History. Every buy, sell, and correction across all your stocks and brokers appears in one date-ordered list. You can filter it by broker, by type (Buy, Sell, or Correction), and by date range, then tap a transaction to open and edit it. When picking a stock to buy or sell, you can also type in the search box to quickly find a stock without scrolling.
What is Budget and how is it different from a wallet Balance Target?
Budget caps how much you spend in a period, either in total or per category (e.g. Food up to 2 million). A Balance Target is the opposite: it tracks a balance you want to build up in a wallet, like savings. So Budget is for reining in spending, while Balance Target is for saving. You can use both together.
How do I set up a Budget?
Open the Transactions tab and tap the target icon on the left of the header to go to the Budget page. Tap the add button (the plus icon in the bottom right corner), choose Total or Per category, enter the limit, pick a period (monthly, weekly, or custom number of days), and save. You can add one total cap and as many category caps as you like. The status color turns orange once usage hits 80% and red once it goes over 100%.
What are the daily and per-use allowances in Budget?
Each budget shows how much you can still spend in the current period. Daily mode spreads it evenly across the days left (e.g. 1 million left over 10 days is about 100k per day). Per-use mode splits the remainder across the number of uses you target (e.g. 20 meals out per month). The used amount and allowance are always computed straight from the transactions in the current period, nothing is stored, so they adjust automatically every time you record one.
What is the Projected balance left in Budget, and why can it differ from your total wallet balance?
Projected balance left estimates the money you're still free to spend: your wallet balance minus what's left of every ongoing budget. By default it only counts Spending wallets, since that's the money actually ready to spend. Using the dropdown on the card you can switch it to All wallets so savings and investments are included too. Your choice is remembered for next time.
What is the average daily expense card in the report?
It shows your average spending per day for the selected period, so you can gauge your everyday pace at a glance. It is computed from your transactions and updates automatically as you add or edit them.
Can I break down the report donut chart by wallet?
Yes. On the Report overview, switch the donut chart to group your money by wallet instead of by category, so you can see where everything sits across your wallets.
How do I see a category's 6-month trend?
Tap a category in any report tab to open its 6-month trend, which charts how much you spent in that category over the last six months. You can show or hide the trend in report settings.
What does the calendar in the Report show?
The Report calendar shades each day by how active it was, so busier days stand out at a glance. Tap any day to see the transactions recorded on it.
How do I export my transactions?
Open the History page and use the export button there. The Transactions screen stays focused on logging, while exporting lives with your full history. Each export is limited to a range of 31 days, so narrow the date filter first if your range is wider.
How do I scan a receipt?
Open the Transactions screen, tap the Add button, then pick Scan Receipt. Point the camera at the receipt and snap it. The result shows up as items grouped by category that you can tidy up, set the type, date, and wallet, then save all at once. This feature needs you signed in and the service enabled.
Why does receipt scan need me to sign in?
Receipt scanning uses a reader service on the server, so you sign in with Google to keep usage fair and prevent abuse. Manual logging still works without signing in.
Is my receipt photo stored anywhere?
No. The photo is only sent to be read and then discarded, never stored. Only the transactions you approve are saved, and those stay on your device.
What are Recurring Transactions and how do they work?
Recurring Transactions are monthly routine expenses or income, like electricity, subscriptions, or salary. Register one once via the three-dot menu on the Transactions page, then set the amount and due date. When the date arrives, the app shows a confirmation: pick a wallet and record it as a regular transaction, tap Not now to postpone it (this popup can only be closed with that button, and won't show again for the same bill until its next due date), or Cancel it if you no longer need it. Cancelling stops the rule permanently, so it will not appear again next month. You can also record it early straight from the Recurring Transactions list by tapping the quick-record icon on a rule that's already due. To get reminded even when the app is closed, turn on the Recurring transaction reminder in Settings, Notifications (requires the app installed on your home screen).
How do I turn on the entry reminder notification?
Open Settings, then in the Notifications section turn on Entry reminder. The app sends a device notification when a full day passes without a new entry, even while the app is closed. It needs two things: the app installed on your home screen and notification permission. For now it works on Chrome or Edge (Android and desktop); iPhone and Firefox are not supported yet, and the exact timing of the notification is decided by your browser.

Technical & Operational

Can I use PFinTrack without an internet connection?
Yes, fully. PFinTrack can be installed to your phone or laptop home screen and used 100% offline. All features work without internet: logging transactions, viewing reports, managing wallets. You only need a connection the very first time you open the app.
What is "Demo Mode" (Sample Data)?
Demo Mode fills the app with fake data (wallets, transactions, loans, budgets, and portfolio) so you can explore all features without entering real data. Turn it on from Settings, and clear it anytime using the red button in Settings when you're ready to start fresh.
How do I restart the guided tour?
Settings → scroll to the Help section → tap "View Tutorial". The tour restarts from the beginning and walks you through all the main features again.
Is this app free forever?
Yes. PFinTrack is completely free. No premium tier, no subscription, no ads, no in-app purchases. Every feature, now and in future updates, is free for everyone.
How do I install PFinTrack on my home screen?
Open Settings, then tap Install App. If your browser supports it (Chrome, Edge, Brave on Android or desktop), an Install button appears. On iPhone with Safari: tap the Share icon in the toolbar, scroll down, then pick Add to Home Screen. Once installed, PFinTrack runs like a regular app, appears in your app drawer, works offline, and is safer from Safari's auto-cleanup.
How do I invite friends or share PFinTrack?
Open Settings, then tap Share PFinTrack. Your phone's share sheet opens and you can pick a target app like WhatsApp, Instagram, or Telegram. When your device supports it, what gets shared is an image, so you can choose Add to Story on Instagram or Status on WhatsApp. Note: the web can't post directly to Story or Status, so you still pick that option yourself inside the app. None of your finance data is shared, only a link and the image.
Where do I see new features or recent changes?
Open the What's New page from Settings, then tap What's New. It lists changes per release: new features, bug fixes, and UI updates, grouped by version. Useful to check whenever the app asks to refresh to a newer version.
How do I change the app language?
Open Settings and look for the Language option. Pick Indonesia or English. The change applies across the whole app, including this FAQ, without needing a manual reload. Your finance data isn't affected, only the labels change.
How do I enable dark mode or change the theme?
Open Settings, then tap Theme under the Display section. There you can pick Light, Dark, or System mode (which follows your phone or laptop settings automatically). You can also switch the app's Accent Color between Blue, Pink, and Sage. Your choice applies instantly and is saved, so it stays the same the next time you open the app.
Can I use PFinTrack offline?
Yes. PFinTrack is an installable web app (PWA) and works fully without internet once it has loaded once. You can still record transactions, wallets, and loans, and read reports while offline. An internet connection is only needed when you want to back up or restore your data to Google Drive.
Why aren't my notifications or reminders showing up, and how do I check?
Open Settings then Diagnostics. There are two tools. Push Notification Diagnostic checks, in order, your device notification permission, the service worker, background sync support, and whether any reminder is on, then sends a test notification as proof; any failing step gives advice or a fix button. Network Diagnostic checks your internet connection, connection quality, app access speed, offline readiness, and Google Drive backup reachability. Diagnostics only reads your device status; it never stores or sends any data.
